WHAT WE DO
Sara’s Story
I knew I needed to find a job that allowed me to continue to mentor and work with people to achieve their potential. So, I transitioned to higher education where I became Chief of Staff to the first Dean of the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University. The work was fantastic and so was the balance. When the Dean left the school, I transitioned to lead the growing Alumni effort for the school as Director of Alumni Relations. As the job turned into more fundraising and less friend raising, I had another decision to make. I am good at fundraising and did enjoy it, but I started to realize that I wanted more.
When I looked at all of my skills from the two careers, one of them stood out - working with people to help them achieve their dreams. Sometimes they were students. Often they were executives looking to achieve their next step in their career. And, I realized that I was a coach. I enrolled at Coaching Training Institute and by the end of the first day of the first class, I realized that I had found my true passion.
That was over 10 years ago. Best decision I ever made.
Coaching is my third career. I started working in theatre companies, and worked my way up to Managing Director. As I started to lead larger companies throughout the country, I realized that I wasn’t able to achieve the work life balance that I wanted. I realized that I would either let work become my whole life, or I would find another career that allowed me to have a life outside of work. I chose the latter.
